Hey Scott several years ago a purchased your complete package and I have learned so much!!!
Carol Edwards,

Hi Scott. I attended your class in Las Vegas on Saturday, and I could have stayed there for hours and hours more. I didn't want it to end. I learned so much. The best new idea for me was to be given permission to write in all the flats and sharps in the pieces that I'm playing. I had never even thought to do that. Well, I've already started writing in my flats and sharps. My teacher would just die if she knew. Ha Ha! I can't wait to come to another class, especially if it's on a cruise ship. Count me in. Thank you again for a fabulous day. You're terrific.
G. Stivale

Thank you Scott for making learning so easy.  It speaks to me, and I can fulfill my dream to play. Everything you say is me, and I finally get the big secret.  I'm 53 years old and am learning to play the piano. You are a blessing!
M. Salinas ,

Good Evening Scott, I am 44 years old and have been taking lessons for a little better than 2 years and really enjoy your show. It has not been showing in my area for a while, but when it was on, it was one of the few programs that I would make a point of watching. I also would tape the show so I could go back and rewatch it to pick up your tips. All I can say is keep up the good work. Thank you very much,
P. DiPascal III

Hi Scott, Hey! Congratulations! And you all deserve every bit of glory and honor that comes with such a deal! I, for one, am very proud of you. But here's why I am so proud of you. 'Cause you know what I get to do, now? When anybody asks me, "who taught you to play like that?", I get to say, "Oh, Scott Houston, you know, the Emmy Award winning Piano Guy on PBS!" That just STUNS them all!  :o) But, anyway, sincere kudos to you and the great people who work with you so very well. Take special care, (I am one of your 61 year-old students and loving every minute of it!)
J. King

Quickly want to say I thoroughly enjoy your class last night. Very informative as well as entertaining! I have been looking for a class like yours for at least 30 years! At the age of 15 (45 years ago) I had a teacher who taught with a very similar method. I LOVED IT! As the years went by and I got terribly rusty; my problem was I couldn't remember the composition of the chords and was never taught how to figure that out for myself. I used to go to my lessons with books containing blank staffs and she would ask me what current tunes I liked and would take a pencil and write them out for me adding the chords. What a blast! I just can't tell you how glad I am you came to our area. I've been wanting to get back to the piano, but just didn't want to go back to more traditional lessons. Thanks again for a great experience and for all your enthusiastic help! Sincerely,
Sharon Stanley, Beavercreek, OHio

Mr Scott Houston, I played music in front of my husband like a pro, without even any prior experience, by watching your show. His jaw hit the floor. I have not practiced much but am still proud of that moment. I know I can just watch another one of your programs, and do it again. My husband now always says, when I come up against adversity, you can do it honey, just like when you played the piano that time when that Scott guy instructed you. I think of that and do what I was afraid I could not. You see Scott, it is much more you teach than just "how to play the piano". You teach life lessons too. Thank you for all you have done. Sincerely,
A grateful student

Scott, What you do, even without the seminars, just with your TV shows and book, is show a guy in is sixties that he really can sit down at a keyboard and make music. I've been playing, purely for my own enjoyment, off and on now for a couple of years, since watching several of your programs and buying your book. I'm not as good or advanced as I should be in this amount of time, but that's probably because I just do it for fun, and I get caught up in what I can do with all the various bells and whistles on my keyboard. But I am good enough to sit down and play my own style of bluesy, jazzy tunes, and put together my own little jam sessions on my keyboard. And while I'm doing it, I am transported into some dark, smoky little bar, playing cool riffs in the F blues scale. It's a cool feeling to just sit down, run through a few songs, using chords that sound right, in my own style. And it's a good feeling to be able to open up a fake book, pick out a song, and know I can play (or figure out) all the chords. I don't know whether this is going to the right place, or how many of these you get to actually read, but I just wanted to say "Thank You!" You really opened a door for me.
R. Parker, McKinney, TX

Scott, I'm close to being 58 years of age. Ever since I can remember I have been told that I am not "musically inclined," and I believed it. Yet, this past Christmas I found myself sitting at my Roland KR-7 that I purchased for my "musically inclined" wife, playing my very first Christmas Carol. Thanks to you. Yep, I sat through every PBS show you've done they've aired, and I caught. I purchased your DVDs, your books, and I watched, read, then watched again and reread everything I purchased. Then I played. Well, I tried. It wasn't pretty or snazzy as you can play, but I played - one finger at a time to start. Then I started using all of my fingers on one hand. Then I started playing with both hands (that was tough!). Heck, I even managed to "keep time" without becoming flustered (something I find so very difficult to do). My wife, well she was shocked when I did my first "solo" with "Silent Night" coming out of the KR-7 speakers and sounding pretty good! She even started singing. When I was done, she looked at me, saw my grinning face and all she could say (I hate this part!) was "Play it again, Honey!" So, the next time you get "input" from someone like that, do us all a favor: Remember those lives you've touched, especially that "old guy" in Ohio who is still grinning and "banging" away with his "not being musically inclined" on his KR-7 and getting a hell of a lot better at it! I hope that one day, I will be able to attend one of your seminars. Preferrably when you're in "Paradise" (that's Ohio for the rest of those non-Ohioans). I'll be the one wearing the "Ohio State" sweatshirt in the front row, and grinning.
D. Howard, Kettering, OH

I have been working at the piano for serval years and was getting no where until I happened to see your show. Now for the fist time I am moving forward with my piano playing and having so much fun. Just thank you Scott for doing what you do...
J Owens, Ohio

Scott, I have been playing piano about 10 years. I am 49 years old. I took formal lessons for 2-3 years to get the basics down. A few years ago, my wife who was working at a nursing home, suggested to me to come and play a few Christmas Carols for the residents. I said I wasn't very good, but she said it doesn't matter they won't remember you the next day anyway. HA! Well that was about 5 years ago, and since then I have expanded my repertoire and play about once a month at various nursing homes in the area. In fact several of my co-workers who like to sing also come along. I work for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) so we call ourselves the DOTted Notes! (Get it?) Recently, I thought I would like to start lessons again, not of a formal nature, but to just sit down with someone and listen to various techniques and tricks I could pick up. When I saw your show on our local PBS station in Buffalo, NY (WNED) I was amazed. It was just what I was looking for, without the weekly lessons! Since then I have purchased your DVD's and watch/tape your program every week. You have re-kindled my obsession with the piano, to the chagrin of my wife, ( but I can handle that,) and I look forward to many more years of enjoyment. Since playing at the nursing homes, I have had sort of a revelation, that bringing music to others that normally would not have received it is sort of my 'Rule of Life' Thank you for all you have done for me and others. Keep up the good work. When are you coming to Buffalo, NY? It is great here in January!
K. Kuminski

Dear Scott, I just have to write and tell you that I bought your book after seeing you on the last 10 minutes on the PBS station here. I took piano lessons when I was a teen for about three years and never really played my very favorite songs. Now I'm playing just about everything I want to play. Your method is amazing. I tried some other methods similiar to yours, but they were written for organ or keyboard and the difficult chord inversions reallydidn't sound right on the piano. I'm really glad that I can actually learn a song in a couple of days instead of a couple of months. I do play hymns quite a bit, but it takes me a couple of months to learn a new one. This is really great. Thank you so much. I finally got to see the whole PBS program that you do. It was very inspiring. I bought a new Baby Grand piano last summer and I'm really enjoying it, now that my children are grown. Also, I subscribed to "Piano Notes" the 17th of March and didn't receive anything except a thank you for joining, so I subscribed again a couple of weeks ago. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong so that I can receive this. Do I have to have something special on my computer? My computer is only about two years old, and I thought I should be able to get something like this. Thank you so much,
P. Summers, Excelsior Springs, Mo

Dear Scott, It has always been my DREAM to play piano but until now it took too long to just to learn to play "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Neither tune were impressive enough to play for friends. My husband bought me your DVD for my birthday, and I LOVE IT!!! I just wanted to say thank you for making my dream come true. I have been watching you for 2 days, and I already learned more than I did in 3 weeks worth of lessons. Now I can play music I enjoy and not be embarrassed when someone asks me to play, and all I can come up with is a choppy nursery rhyme tune (that I'd been pratcing forever!) -Greatfully in tune
I. Jones

Hi Scott: Thanks to your methods I can now play reasonably well some 100 broadway songs. I enjoy interspersing my own versions of the songs with chords and notes.I have lots to learn yet. At 78 it is no mean feat ... Thanks! H Litsky
H Litsky,

Thanks for making it easy and fun to play the piano. I'm 33 years old and have played saxophone all my life. I've never understood chords until you made them simple to understand. I still have so much to learn, but you have made it seem like reading English rather than Greek or Hebrew. I really enjoy the blues scale and wonder why other music teachers haven't shown me that! I've mentioned the blues scale to several musicians I know and none of them have ever heard of it. It alone has brought me so much enjoyment. Thank You for really making it easy!
G. O'Conner

Dear Scott, I ordered your DVD package a week ago on a Saturday, and by Monday I just couldn't wait anymore so I went to a bookstore and bought the book. When I got home, the package was waiting for me! Oh well, I wanted the book anyway, but that was FAST service! I've been playing with the piano for almost a week now, and I can almost "get" Moondance by Van Morrison. I'm not there yet, but heck, I couldn't even play a chord last week! This is cool! I'm going slowly so that I can get a feel for the left hand parts, and be able to play independently with my right. If you have any ideas about that, besides starting with easy tunes and just keeping at it, please let me know. (I know, I could have picked an easier piece than Moondance. But you said...) Scott, you are the best! Thank you a million times over for the gift of playing piano!
Lyle

I just wanted to say I attended your workshop a year or so ago, but in January 04 I started the home study program. I have seen significant progress as a result of starting with only 5 minutes a day of practice. While I could play a little before attending your workshop, I can play so much better because I have definition to the things I was doing naturally but did not know what it was called. So, thank you for helping me to pursue my passion.
J. Golden

I have a male student (70 years old) who took a four-week course from me about 6 months ago. He came over this morning to show me his progress and his enthusiasm is remarkable. He plays soooo many songs now. He has purchased most of your material as well so we both thank you. It's a great program for adults and kids who want to play fun songs fast. My 10 young piano students love it also.
Marsha

I just wanted to write and say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! My mother was an excellent classical pianist, and I always loved to listen to her play. She went blind when she was in her 50's and died at 59. I have her piano and wanted so much to learn to play. I did try taking some lessons, but found it to be difficult and time consuming. I was very disappointed and thought the piano would just sit in my home and collect dust! Then, I heard part of your presentation on the local PBS station, so I went out and purchased your book. I read the book on Saturday morning and by Saturday afternoon I was playing the piano. I have since mastered about a dozen songs and just sent for some new fake books for Christmas. Again, Thank you from a very satisfied customer!
L. Phillips

Just wanted to say thanks. I have been playing for about a year now, and people think I must be a genius or that I'm lying when I say that I have never taken a piano lesson before. I started playing after seeing you on public TV. Before that time, our piano was a piece of furniture that no one went near for years.I bought your book and now play about 40 songs that I have always wanted to play. At 56 and having survived lung cancer 3 years ago, I must tell you that this has enriched my life tremendously. You made it happen.Let me know if you need a testimonial. I should be your poster boy for anyone who does not believe they can learn to play Best,
John

Happy Holidays, Scott Thanks for finding the way to get musical ability into someone like me. The pleasure I get will last from now on. I owe it all to you. I already own just about everything you've made having just received "Tips and Cheap Tricks-Vols 3 and 4 this week. Keep adding to those. I'll buy them all.
Mike

Ordered 'fake book' 6/22/05, rec'd 6/25. I call that great service. The book is wonderful. Compared to other fake books I have seen, you provide more interesting, easy-to-read chord changes. I'm already sounding 'more professional'. With my 'Play Piano in a Flash' book beside me, I have spent hours today going through songs in the BIG book. My shoulders are screaming, but I couldn't be happier to have found you. I TIVO all of your programs and love the personal improvement I'm experiencing. At age 71, I'm finally beginning to play piano the way I had always wished I could. THANKS
M. Layton, Angleton, TX

I really enjoyed the recent piano class that I attended which you so competently presented. I don't currently have a keyboard or piano, but I am definitely getting one and keeping the information for when I do. I play a little guitar and the information made a lot of sense and put the info I already know about guitar music into a piano-user-friendly mode. I am excitingly awaiting my keyboard so that I can get started! Thanks again. If the Universe gives me the $, I'll see you at the Boogie Woogie/Blues class.
Jacquie

I just have to tell you, that you have brought incredible joy into my life with your little book, Play Piano in a Flash. All my life (and that's more than half a century now!) I've wanted to play the piano. About 25 years ago, I took "piano lessons" for 3-4 years because I had two young daughters, and I wanted to get a head start so I could help them when they began playing piano. However, I spent hours and hours (and lots of money) studying John Thompson's Note Speller, Scale Speller and Chord Speller and practicing everything from Edna Mae Burnam, John Schaum and Michael Aaron to Beethoven's "Fur Elise" and Burgmuller's "Twenty-Five Easy and Progressive Studies for the Piano" (I never did find the "easy" part!)--yet never could I just sit down and play a "real song." I could play the Hanon exercises backwards and forward though, but who cares?! Strangely enough, my daughters had the same outcome after their 6-7 years of piano lessons. So, for the past 15 years, my piano sat silent, just a pretty piece of furniture in my living room. Now I'm a rather intelligent woman, and I've known many people with lower IQ's than mine who play the piano beautifully. I've always thought there must be some "secret" I was never told about how to play this beautiful instrument. Then one day last October, I saw you on my local PBS station. I must admit I was very skeptical about how easy you made it look but thought, "What do I have to lose? I can spend $15 on his book or just get rid of the piano and forget it." After reading less than half of your book, a musician friend (he's a drummer and guitar player--not a pianist) loaned me Hal Leonard's "The Easy Fake Book." (The one with a chord speller in the back.) Well, guess what? I took your advice and found some songs that I liked and just started playing them. (I did have to refer frequently to that chord speller in the back of the book, but the more I played, the more chords I learned.) And what do you know--I actually began to play real songs based solely on "the secrets" you shared in your book. Of course, the tunes were a little lop-sided at first, but I eventually got the rhythm going, and then I expanded to every song in the book. I progressed to "The Ultimate Fake Book" and even the "Broadway Fake Book." What a thrill that after only a few months I can now sit down at my own piano and play hundreds of songs that I like! (I haven't progressed into rolled chords and arpeggios yet, but I know I'll get there before long.) I don't ever aspire to being featured at Carnegie Hall or even playing with my local symphony. But I am thoroughly enjoying every moment I get to spend playing, rather than just practicing, my piano.Thank you so much for sharing your talent and wisdom and for making all of this so simple and so fun! Sincerely,
D. Mercer

Hi Scott: I have been trying to learn to play keyboard for a year now. Notice I said trying. I have borrowed books from people whom do not own a piano anymore and copying things on line and wearing out my library card. I have even gone into books stores and copied from their books. Then I found a treasure. Wait, let me give you a little back ground. I am a writer and we both work full time jobs and raised a wonderful family. Now we are pursuing our interests. Having never played an instrument before, I have always been interested in percussion, keyboard and violin. My other half is an avid musician with his buddies. They play guitars and every now and then they invite someone to play a different instrument. Well, I found your book-Play Piano in a Flash at the library. I read through it in my spare time, then renewed it. Today, I was playing around with the bass line "walk" on page 79: and guess what?! my mate was standing behind me and picked up his guitar and started playing with me! Then he asked me to play the same thing an octave higher. I did and he said, "Now that is something that he can work with!" WOW! I just wanted to say,"Thank you!" I may someday become part of the guys band. I will dedicate a book or song to you one day in appreciation. I have not interacted with your on-line program yet. Your book is great! It also makes me chuckle quite often.

I just received your book and cd as a gift for making a donation to WLIW Channel 21 in Long Island. I read practically the whole book in the first hour that I had it. I am very happy with the program. I have taken piano lessons in the past but do not have the time or patience for advanced note reading and constant practice. Your program is perfect for me. I was going to take piano lessons again this summer but after reading your book I have learned all I need to know to play for my own enjoyment. Thanks for a terrific program. PS..the best tip you gave was to just learn the notes for the song you wish to play instead of trying to learn them all at once. .
Beverly, Long Island, NY

I watch your show when I can. I've been 'makin music' since 1948 on a 'squeeze box' , 3 key board with full pedal board organ, button box (diatonic) 3,4 and 5 row accordions, chromatic button accordion, electronic keyboards and piano. I love 'em all. Had 12 lessons when I was a kid, and I took it from there. Many of the things you teach/explain are things I thought of after a lot of trial and error. Keep the lead sheets comming. If it sounds good, Do It, and you will be Happy!!!!! I think you're the greatest. Keep up the good work.

Hello Scott. I was channel surfing today and found your presentation. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Just to bore you for a few minutes, my father was an accomplished piano player. Did some professional playing when young, but most of his life played for enjoyment with family and friends. I took lessons for 2-3 years when I was young, but like all kids, other activities took preference. I always really regretted not being able to play just for fun. My father is gone now, but I still have this longing to be able to play. I know he would have loved to see me continue playing. I did buy a piano about 15 years ago and started lessions, but with kids and a business to run I had to stop. Whenever I see a piano, I just want to play. When I saw you today, I saw hope that just maybe I will see my dream come true. Believe it or not, I just acquired all of his old sheet music from back in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Thanks for letting me ramble on. I live in New Jersey and would love to attend your course if you are ever in the area. Thanks again for this opportunity!!!
Marilyn E., Middlesex, NJ

I watched you on a public broadcast channel while attending my uncle’s funeral (unfortunately.) I have always wanted to be a "good" piano player. I have searched for a piano teacher, but was not too interested in being a classical pianist. When I watched your program, it seemed to be EXACTLY what I have been looking for. I live in the greater Hudson Valley Region of New York State. The closest you come to my home town (Newburgh) is Trenton, NJ. Would you be interested in coming to NY (maybe Poughkeepsie or Newburgh) and doing a workshop?
T. A. Nicolosi, Newburgh, New York

I am retired, 71 years old and never played a note. I purchased both Scott Houston's DVDs - Play Piano In A Flash and Play Piano In A Flash 3. If I can learn how to play the piano then so can you. You will be pleasantly surprised as to what a little practice can do and before long you will be playing your first tune. Do you want to learn how to play piano like classic style music - Both DVDs are not for you. Do you want to learn how to play the piano and have fun at the same time then continue to read below. This review will be used for both DVDs. Both DVDs are informative and contain much duplicate references. I found Play Piano In A Flash to concentrate more on the technical aspect of piano playing. Play Piano In A Flash 3 seems to highlight the "fun" aspect of learning how to play in 3 easy steps. Step 1 is Learn Chords To Your Song, Step 2 is Learn Melody Line and Step 3 is Put Your Hands Together And Play Your Tune! Which DVD should you buy if you can only afford one? I would choose Play Piano In A Flash 3. Very much the same as Playing Piano In a Flash and it cost about $20.00 less. Silent Night is used as the learning song for both DVDs. Scott will take you thru a few extra songs in Piano In A Flash 3. So come on Couch Potatoes - get off that couch and start learning to play the piano. Above all have fun!
