In the That's Jazz piano series, you will be introdcued to jazz in the most enjoyable and efficient way- by playing it! Each book contains a collection of 8 tunes covering the main jazz styles of swing, Latin, and rock. Each tune is preceded by a "Warm Up" page to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to play the tune, followed by an optional "Going Futher" page
to introduce you to improvisation in its many forms.
Book 1, Getting Into It, is the first book in a three book series. It begins at late-level three to early-level four if you want to compare it to traditional piano lesson skill levels.
The eight jazz-oriented pieces are all in C, A Minor or D Minor, and use triad patterns. All pieces have an optional duet part (one hand) that can be played on the same piano as the student. Interspersed between the pieces are a variety of exercises to help the student learn the rhythms and experiment with improvisation or composition.
The chord pattern I-IV-V7 is reinforced in several pieces.
